Definition of Hypertension

Abstract
New definition and classification of hypertension is reported by JNC V(The Fifth Report of the Joint National Committee on Detection, Evaluation and Treatment of High Blood Pressure).
@ES This report shows several now features as follows:
@EN 1) Hypertension is defined as diastolic blood pressure of 90 mmHg or greater and/or systolic blood pressure of 140 mmHg or greater.
2) Hypertension is classified into 4 stages in consideration of risk for cardiovascular disease
3) Existence of target organ damage is identified by examination of heart eye, kidney, cerebrovascular system and peripheral vasculature.
Accurate diagnosis is important because continuous treatment is required for hypertensive patients.
Therefore, regular and accurate blood pressure measurement as well as identification of target organ damage are necessary.
